Monthly Update - September 2023

September was a particularly busy month. It’s back to school season, we hosted another Featured Friday Inventory Sale, and brought on 4 new CFS interns.

BC Technology for Learning Society delivers the Computers for Schools Plus program here in BC and we were thrilled to celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the program as well as the distribution of 2 million devices across Canada. Our contribution to that total is 198,000 computers and we expect to hit our 200,000 milestone in March 2024.

Thanks to all of our technicians and staff for your hard work this month; we were able to distribute 677 computers in September.  We’d like to extend a big welcome to our newest CFS Interns, Aidan, Henry, Michael and Parker! We’re excited to have you on board.

As mentioned last month, many of our technicians completed their internships between August and September. We were grateful for the opportunity to sit down with Jarrad ahead of his last day as he had some great insights to share from his internship. Make sure you check out the video by clicking below.

On September 22 we hosted our second Featured Friday Garage Sale! These events are like an open house for Featured Inventory items - and they’re the only opportunity to do an in person inspection of Featured Inventory items from our website prior to submitting a request form.  The inspection went well because 141 computers and laptops found new homes, as well as other miscellaneous items we had available. This event is by invite only, so the best way to hear about the next one is by signing up for our newsletter here.

We have some large ELO touchscreen monitors left from the Garage Sale that haven’t quite made it onto Featured Inventory yet. We had a teacher pick one up and share his review. He will be using them in his classroom to give students a chance to explore math concepts in virtual environments. If you’ve ever seen large touchscreen monitors at a self-serve kiosk in a store or restaurant, that’s another use for these monitors! We have more available, please send an email to Luke to learn more about how to request them.

Do you have photos or stories of how you use tech from BC Tech in your classroom or organization? We’d love to hear from you and give you a shout out on social media. Please send an email to keely@reusetechbc.ca.

Thanks to our September first-time donors, Aisix, Bailey Nelson, Home Instead, and Public Guardian and Trustee of British Columbia. Your donations have kept computers and other electronics out of the waste stream.

Until next time!

Your Donations Matter.
