Monthly Update - November 2024

We cannot believe it’s almost the end of 2024! This year has really flown by. In November, eight new clients made technology requests from BC Tech for the first time. We’re grateful to meet the tech needs of schools and non-profits across British Columbia!

Learning Buddies Network using refurbished tech for programming

We were invited to present at Multi-Agency Partnership, an organization supporting refugee claimants and asylum seekers. Thank you to the team at MAP for having us. For agencies looking to request technology for your refugee clients, please visit our Computers for Schools Plus page to learn more. (It’s the “agencies” that put the PLUS in the CFS-Plus program!)

A note on the Canada Post strike: BC Tech for Learning uses Canada Post for smaller orders, across all our programs. If you require delivery for your devices, some of these requests may be held up due to the strike. We are currently looking into alternative shipping solutions, and may soon be able to ship orders to the local area. Delays on shipping for requests made outside of the Lower Mainland are expected to continue.

Thanks to our donors for your contributions this November, including City of Vancouver, Metro Vancouver, Relic Entertainment, Arc’Teryx, MNP, and many Government of Canada departments. Your retired devices are sure to bring many families holiday cheer this coming winter!

This month we launched our Give Back program. We ask our donors and supporters to take your advocacy and support to the next level. You can host a tech drive, recommend BC Tech to employees as your charity of choice, host a Lunch & Learn, or sponsor an event. To learn more about our Give Back program, download the one pager.

Coming up in December:

BC Tech is hosting our first ever Christmas party for clients and donors! Come sip a warm beverage, indulge in some holiday treats, and get a tour of the warehouse while you’re at it! For clients: the free laptop ticket is sold out, but be sure to hop on the waitlist in case more become available, and get a party ticket in the meantime for members of your organization! RSVP here.

We’re back with another Meet Our Board interview, and this month we’d love to introduce you to Mark Taylor! Mark’s I.T. expertise has been invaluable to our board of directors for the last 6(!) years. He’s also a whiz with the barbecue.

I joined the board in 2018.

Why did you want to join the board of directors?

Because the BCTLS mission is a unique and powerful cause that I believe very strongly in.

What impacts are you most excited about?

The impact on the lives of everyone involved, from the opportunities given to the employees to the valuable resources we provide to the community, to the support from our donors, and to the gratitude I have to be able to contribute some of my knowledge and experience to such an important cause.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I like the two G’s. Golf and Gardening.

What’s the best piece of professional advice you ever received?

Be humble.
