Monthly Update - December 2024

Happy New Year! Our winter break has come and gone, and we’re back refreshed and renewed, just like the technology we deliver all year long. We hope you had a spectacular holiday season!

With the shortened month, December was as busy as ever! 349 computers were sent out the door, including 80 laptops that were packaged up in boxes with bows and directly handed to our non-profit and school clients at our first-ever Holiday Party! Thanks to all who came out to celebrate with us.

We rarely get to see the direct impact a refurbished computer has on a family and asked Holiday Party guests to share their stories of how having access to technology helps their clients. Their stories remind us why this work is so important and we were happy to share the list of “Dear Donor” messages in a year-end communique.

I have a class of 24-28 students each year. They are grade 6/7 students. Your laptops/desktops have given them an opportunity to learn to use the district apps (Office365, Canva, Photoshop, Book Creator, and more). They also learn to use online sites appropriately. Your tech has enabled my special needs students (Who cannot write with a stylus) to express their learning by utilizing speech-to-text. They otherwise would be struggling. Also, your tech has helped countless low-income families get access to resources online that they normally would be cut off from. Thank you!
I had a meeting with a single mother with two children. Her daughter is 13 and her son is 11 years old. They hardly make their ends meet. They go to school, but due to financial issues have not been able to access school tools online. We provided her with a free laptop, and she was very happy to receive assistance. Here at ACUF we appreciate BC Tech for the support and wonderful job creating opportunities.

20 families also received a holiday surprise from BC Tech’s not-so-Secret Santa - Jat Saini Real Estate! Thank you to Jatinder for paying for 20 laptop orders from our individual programs. Your generous gift brought an extra bout of holiday cheer!

Having access to free technology is especially important to settlement workers and other non-profit organizations who often have no budget to purchase equipment and work with individuals unable to afford their own device. Cash donations help BC Tech keep our costs low or free for clients. If you would like to donate, please follow this link. A tax receipt is available for your donations.

December was also full of many external events. We attended the Surrey Board of Trade’s Seasonal Sizzle, the Burnaby Board of Trade’s Christmas Luncheon, and presented our programs at Decoda Literacy Solutions’ Community Adult Learning Programs meeting. If you run an event or meeting for a group that could benefit from partnering with BC Tech for Learning’s, please contact keely@reusetechbc.ca

Coming up with BC Tech for Learning

We visited the City of Vancouver to film a “Stories from our Donors” video about why the City chooses to donate their retired technology to BC Tech. The City of Vancouver won our 2024 Zero Waste Champion award and have continued to show their dedication to sustainability by donating their end of use technology. Keep an eye out for the video later this month. (The fiscal year is almost over so if your company would like to be recognized at our Donor Event in June, keep the tech coming in!)

In February, we are hosting Share the Love: a Valentine’s Day themed karaoke fundraiser!

BC Tech has been privileged to have many amazing donors over our years providing computers and laptops for refurbishment. Like many nonprofits, our operational costs have risen, and we have begun additional fundraising efforts to cover these costs.

Help support our fundraising goals by purchasing a ticket to Share the Love on February 12. Bring your beau or best pals and join us for what is certain to be a fun pub night filled with belting out classic love songs, heartwrenching ballads, and games, silent auction and more.

You can get tickets here.

Your Donations Matter.
