Monthly Update - May 2024
May was an exciting month here at BC Tech! We attended events, hit more milestones, and have lots to look forward to for June. To top it all off, spring has officially sprung, and the goslings are out and about at the gorgeous Burnaby Lake Park. We sure love our location!

In May, we delivered 639 computers to schools, non-profits, and low-income families in British Columbia. Thanks to our new interns for working hard to get up to speed!
We’d like to welcome Milena Santa Cruz to the BC Tech team as our new Bookkeeper. She is asking lots of great questions as she familiarises herself and her accounting background to our organization. We’d also like to wish Jerred Flynn the best with his new position! We hope you come visit us at the office, we’ll make sure to have a karaoke song in our back pocket in exchange for another excel tip! 😉
Since 2017 BC Tech has partnered with TELUS to deliver the computer hardware portion of their Internet for Good initiative. This month, we hit 2000 devices delivered through this program. Thank you TELUS for all you do to continue to close the digital divide and support Canadians. The timing on this milestone could not be better as TELUS has now expanded their reach through their work with Mobility for Good.
At the beginning of the month, Jim King retired from BC Tech. He worked as our Director of Donations for the last 5 years, serving as a friendly voice on the other side of the phone or email to our donors. He also played an integral role in the delivery of the Access to Technology initiative and was always willing to step up and lend a helping hand. We wish him a very happy retirement!
Big thanks to Jonathan from the Coquitlam School District for inviting us to participate in this year’s Adult Centered Education Conference! We had lots of fun attending the “Poster Session” and sharing more about our programs with attendees. If you know of other organizations looking for equipment, please be sure to send them our way.
Upcoming in June BC Tech has two events to look forward to for both our clients and our donors. First, we will be hosting another Featured Inventory Garage sale on Thursday, June 6. This event is open only to eligible organizations who have pre-registered with us for an invitation. There’s still time to join us! Fill out this form to receive details on the event.
On June 20, we will be hosting our annual Donor Recognition Event to celebrate our donors and all of their contributions this year. We will be presenting 6 very special awards, and are excited to see everyone there!
Lastly, we sent a survey out to clients asking, among other things, what they would have done if BC Tech was not here:
“I would have applied for grants to hopefully purchase one or two new laptops, but that could take months before finding out the outcome of the proposal. With BC Tech, we can use grants to buy 8 suitable laptops, vs only 1 new one! It allows us to support so many of our clients!”
