Monthly Update - June 2024
June is always an exciting and busy month at BC Tech, but we were even busier than usual as we looked forward to our AGM, annual staff barbecue, Donor Recognition event, and a Featured Inventory Garage sale! It was such a treat to be able to see so many donors, clients, and past and present board and staff at these events.
We hosted another Featured Inventory Garage Sale at the beginning of the month, which allowed us to send an extra 227 computers and laptops out the door with 22 different clients. Thanks to all who attended! We’ll see you at the next one in September.
Our 2024 Donor Recognition Event took place on another beautiful sunny Thursday evening at TELUS Garden, where we shared stories, and awards with donors, clients, past and present volunteers and interns. We’d like to thank everyone who enjoyed the evening with us, but especially TELUS for hosting us again, Save-On-Foods Cameron for providing non-alcoholic beverages, and Business in Vancouver for being our media sponsor. Our full event recap with BIV is available here.
Congratulations to this year’s winners: NTT DATA, recipient of the “Technology for Good” award; the City of Vancouver, recipient of the “Zero Waste Champion” award; Relic Entertainment, recipient of the “Company of Heroes” award; Canucks Sports & Entertainment, recipient of the “Connecting Canadians” award; and the University of British Columbia, recipient of the “Inspiring People” award.
We also honoured Jim King with a 5-year service award. Thank you Jim for your dedication to ensuring everyone has access to technology through your position as our Director of Donor Relations. We wish you all the best in your retirement.
June was also when we said farewell and best of luck to Eric, Adam, Nathan, Emyll and Oswald for their learning and time with us as CFS Interns. We look forward to working with Reva and Anson in July.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to Lisa Bomen and Peter Smailes who joined our Board of Directors at the AGM. Thank you for choosing to share your expertise with us. Thanks are also extended to Larina Lopez for her 4 years of service on the board. We wish her well in her new adventures as a professional coach.
We are excited to introduce you to our Board over the coming months with our new series of “Meet Our Board” interviews. Learn more about why they choose to volunteer their time with our organization, starting with our Chair, Doug Kinsey.
