Monthly Update - June 2023
Happy summer, everyone! Another month down, and a big one it was!
June offered us many opportunities to gather and connect with donors, clients, board directors, and volunteers in person. It was nice to be able to meet face-to-face with those who we may normally only get to see online or hear from over the phone.
On June 22 we hosted our annual Donor Recognition event at beautiful TELUS Garden! It was a lovely evening with speeches from our Executive Director Mary-Em Waddington, Board Chair Doug Kinsey, award recipients, and past interns who have found successful work placements. Our most heartfelt thank you to our donors for all that you do. We couldn’t do what we do without you.
We were pleased to present awards to the following companies:
ActiveCo Technology Management - Diligence & Excellence award,
Langara College - Partners in Education award,
Kwantlen Polytechnic University - Environmental Sustainability award,
Titmouse - Very Fancy New Donor award, and
Tolko Industries - Partners in Community Investment award.
Thanks are extended to TELUS as the generous event host and media sponsor Business in Vancouver. There will be a future article highlighting our award recipients and how their contributions make an impact in the community.
We would also like to thank Deena Simon for her years of service to our Board of Directors and for her time as past-Chair. Deena was instrumental in recruiting many new donors for BC Tech. Thank you, Deena! We will miss you at the board table, but we know that we will always have your support.
On June 23 we hosted our annual staff and volunteer barbecue which was followed by our AGM, where our Board reaffirmed the strategic plan we built for the society last October. The Society’s annual report was also released and is available for review here.
Over the next few months we’ll be working to improve various desktop packages on our newly revitalised Featured Inventory page. The goal is to make client's viewing easier, but also to entice greater uptake of desktops. We have a lot of 6th+ gen desktop computers that are looking for a new home! We recognize there are some barriers that come with having a desktop instead of a laptop, and are doing what we can to reduce these barriers to get more usable equipment into the hands of our clients.
Have a wonderful July.
