Monthly Update - September 2025

September has come to an end, and with that, everyone has properly settled back into school and work routines after the summer break!

We had 3 interns complete their work terms in September. Thanks to Kyle, Manpreet, and Collin - we wish you all the best in your future endeavours. We would also like to welcome the new interns who started this month: Gabriel, Justin, Ezikiel, and Hans!

We ran a lottery for 5 boxes of free laptops for new clients, and it was a huge success! Over 20 entries from new schools, organizations, and Indigenous communities across BC were received, but only 5 lucky winners were chosen through a random draw. Congratulations to the winners!

Did you know BC Tech rents our warehouse space? We are currently housing equipment for 3 different clients. Running out of storage space and interested in renting some of our warehouse? Send an email to mwaddington@ReuseTechBC.ca.

Mary-Em and Keely travelled to Saskatoon for this year’s CFS+ AGM. It was another year of great conversations with other affiliates. Thanks to Darryl, Jay, and Jim for being gracious hosts and showing us around Saskatoon!

The Computers for Schools Plus affiliates from across Canada at the Wanuskewin, where we enjoyed Indigenous food, dancing and an immersive cultural experience.

The Government of Canada’s Computers for Schools Plus program is internationally regarded. Mary-Em was invited to present (remotely) to members of the Australian government on the successes and challenges of the CFS+ program, as Australia is launching a “device bank” to address digital inequities. The CFS model has already been replicated in other countries, including Kenya, Colombia and other Latin American countries.

On that note, our federal funding is slated for renewal this year, and we need your support. Along with everyone else, we expect federal budget cuts this coming year and would appreciate your voice to share how our services are vital to Canadians’ ongoing success and access to digital technologies and transformation. We ask that you write a letter to ISED Minister Melanie Joly (Melanie.Joly@ised-isde.gc.ca). If you need help with what to say, a suggested script has been included below:

I am writing to you to express my thanks and appreciation for the Computers for Schools Plus program

We have been grateful for the support received from the BC Affiliate, BC Technology for Learning Society, over the past XX years, where we have received XX refurbished devices.

● Tell the Minister how the devices have been used,

● Tell the Minister the impact on the community/for Canadians of receiving those devices,

● Tell the Minister what you would have

As always, our endless thanks to this month’s donors, including NTT DATA, City of Vancouver, Smartt Inc., IQmetrix Software Development, TELUS, Douglas College, Cathay Pacific Airways, and many Government of Canada departments.

Your Donations Matter.
