Monthly Update - March 2026

We have some big organizational changes to share with our valued donors and clients.

Funding for Computers for Schools Plus has come to an end.

For the last 32 years, BC Technology for Learning Society has successfully delivered the Government of Canada’s Computers for Schools Plus (CFS+) program, playing a foundational role in building one of the country’s most impactful digital inclusion and circular economy initiatives, having refurbished over 2.5 million devices for schools, non-profit organizations, and low-income individuals.

We have learned that Computers for Schools Plus, and its associated Interns programs, will sunset effective March 31. This decision reflects broader government fiscal and program restructuring considerations and is not a reflection of the program’s impact or value. As you well know, demand for digital access in Canada continues to grow. Government support provided the necessary core operational funding, which was used to provide many free devices and keep costs low.

BC Technology for Learning Society is rebranding to ReuseTechBC.

While the cessation of funding came as an unexpected surprise, we are working on new opportunities to transform our organization, including removing all references to Computers for Schools from our marketing and communications tools and fully rebranding as ReuseTechBC to describe our program work. BC Technology for Learning Society will remain our legal name and will be used when issuing donor tax receipts, contracts or invoices.

Due to the loss of the CFS+ Interns program, we are seeking volunteers to help refurbish devices.  If you would like more information about volunteer opportunities, including corporate volunteer days, please email HR@ReuseTechBC.ca

This past fiscal year, we distributed 8033 computers and laptops to schools, non-profits, Indigenous communities, libraries, and families in need. These devices provided 13 interns with valuable work experience in I.T. Our thanks as always to our technology donors for your support.

In February, we hosted three Computer 101 workshops, one with Coquitlam Public Library, and the second and third events in partnership with Burnaby Neighbourhood House and the Burnaby Primary Care Network. These workshops generate long waitlists, showing the immense need in the community.

Thank you to Coquitlam Public Library for their continued partnership! We look forward to future events and are seeking funders for the next Computer 101. Your sponsorship covers the cost of the laptops for participants. For more information, please email  Keely@ReuseTechBC.ca.

PCN funded 24 laptops, which were split between two different workshops. Two teams within Burnaby Neighbourhood House collaborated on the sessions, with one hosted through their literacy team and the other done through the settlement team.

These sessions were unique to any other Computer 101 session we have run. PCN came to each workshop to facilitate a session on learning how to access healthcare resources in BC. Participants learned how to find a family doctor online in BC, how to book appointments using online forms, and other skills. Thanks to our partners for a successful set of sessions; we hope to do it again!

In March, we hosted another Featured Inventory Garage Sale to cap off our fiscal year. Thanks to all who came out! March also marked the end of Justin, Hans, and Ezekiel’s time with ReuseTechBC. We wish them all the best for their future information technology endeavours!

Planning is underway for our 2026 Donor Recognition Event. We’re opening up the invitation to prospective and current donors. If you’re interested in coming to our flagship event to learn more about how our work impacts communities in BC, please fill out this form to request a save the date.

Now more than ever, Your Donations Matter.
