Monthly Update - July 2026
July came and went in the blink of an eye. On the surface, it may not appear as if a lot happened, but we have been very busy behind the scenes.
We’ve been connecting with our valued technology donors, learning what their upcoming refresh plans may be, and sharing our new donations program “ITAD for Impact” with them.
What is ITAD, you ask? Information Technology Asset Disposition is an essential component of corporate device management, disposing of devices safely and securely. With 32 years of experience securely wiping hard drives and managing assets, ReuseTechBC helps our donors maximize the value of their retired I.T. assets back in the community where it’s most needed, creating charitable impact (income tax receipt included) at home here in BC. We appreciate that our donors have other disposal options, including commercial ITAD or nonprofits - our differentiator is that, as a registered charity, we can issue tax receipts for donations, equipment stays in BC, and we are third-party audited by the Electronics Products Recycling Association, which oversees the recycling programs across Canada. This audit focuses on health and safety, the hard drive wipe process and confirming where equipment is sent. These are strong levels of assurance that equipment is handled safely and securely.
Our sponsored article published by Business in Vancouver was released, highlighting our tech donors from FY26. You can read all about them here.
Summer may be halfway through, but we are always taking new technology donations and seeking new donors. Word of mouth is always the strongest marketing tool, and we would love for you to share our work with your corporate friends. Google reviews are pretty good too!
Windows 11-compliant devices are especially valuable for refurbishing and redistributing ahead of the back-to-school season. We are especially looking for 10th generation and higher desktops, as these are very popular among our school district clients.

After last month’s update, we received this wonderful letter, which depicts our impact in the community so succinctly. Recycling doesn’t do this with old equipment!
“This spring, a Quadra Island resident and single parent learned that Statistics Canada was recruiting temporary staff to support the 2026 Census. She was eager to apply but lacked access to a reliable computer. Her aging iPad was not capable of meeting the technical requirements for the position, and she worried that learning a new operating system would be too challenging with the hiring deadline quickly approaching.
Through Quadra Literacy and Reuse Tech BC's refurbished computer program, she received a refurbished laptop running the Zorin Linux operating system. A volunteer prepared the computer, installed the software she needed—including Microsoft Teams—and helped ensure it was ready for use.
With access to the right technology, she successfully applied for the position and quickly became confident using her new laptop. Her success exceeded expectations: she was not only hired by Statistics Canada but was later promoted to a supervisory role.
When we followed up with her, she shared that learning to use her refurbished computer had significantly increased her confidence with technology. She believes these new digital skills and confidence will continue to benefit her in seeking future employment opportunities.
This story highlights how access to affordable technology, combined with practical support, can remove barriers to employment. A refurbished computer provided through Quadra Literacy not only helped transform an opportunity that seemed out of reach into meaningful employment and professional advancement, but also built the digital confidence needed for future success.”
Thanks to Kathie for sharing this impactful story. ♥️
We also hosted our second auction with the lost and found equipment at YVR Airport. This fundraiser helps to move some of the more ‘non-educational’ technology assets we receive, including cameras, AirPods, and watches. Please be sure you have everything before boarding your flight - if you lose it, we will find it!
Looking ahead to August, we are having our back-to-school sale starting in August. Subscribe to our newsletter to be in the know when the discounts drop! We are always putting up new equipment on our Featured Inventory page. Be sure to check it out!
