Monthly Update - February 2025
What a wild and busy time we had in February for a month with only 28 days! Let’s dive right into it! We hit our 7,000th computer distributed one month ahead of our year end! Woot woot!
BC Tech hosted our first fundraiser on February 12. It was a huge success, and we are so grateful for all who came out to sing some karaoke, compete at the beer pong table, and help us raise money to cover operating expenses. Charities and non-profit organizations across BC and beyond continue to face funding challenges and budget cuts, so it is important for us to continue to find other means to cover fixed costs.
A special thank you to Almost Famous Entertainment and Jerred for the best karaoke experience, The Taphouse in Coquitlam for hosting us, to the Surrey Firefighters Charitable Society for their generous event sponsorship, and our prize donors, including VIP Travel, Coquitlam Centre, City of Lougheed, Cactus Club, the Vancouver Whitecaps, and The Keg.
We would like to take a moment to highlight the kindness from employees at Smith + Andersen this month, who made cash donations to BC Tech for Learning this month. Thank you to the Smith + Andersen team for your support of our cause!
If you would like to make a cash donation to BC Tech for Learning, you can do so through PayPal, which we have linked here on our website.
Coming up with BC Tech for Learning
Our Featured Inventory Garage sale is coming up again this week. If your organization is eligible to receive tech and you would like to come, please fill out this form so we can send you an invitation.
Lastly, it’s time for another Meet Our Board interview! It’s been a while since we have shared one of these, but we definitely have not forgotten about the rest of our lovely board! This month, meet Lisa Bomen, one of BC Tech’s newest Directors.
Meet Our Board
Director: Lisa Bomen
What is your role at BC Tech and what skills do you bring to the organization?
I am a new member of the board of directors at BC Tech. I have worked for several donor organizations in the past and was always really impressed by what the BC Tech for Learning team accomplished on so many levels. It's a genuine honor to be able to see the impact of the donations that are made. I have worked in finance in the tech sector for eight years now and am happy to bring my knowledge, connections and expertise to the organization.
When did you join BC Tech’s Board?
I just joined the Board last year, the summer of 2024.
Why did you want to join the board of directors?
It's an honor to be a part of an organization that dedicates itself so efficiently to the community across the board. It's also a good experience for me and allows me to contribute in a meaningful way.
What impacts are you most excited about?
I'm passionate about technology and innovation in general, so bringing more access to technology to under-served individuals and communities strongly aligns with my personal passion.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Aside from my passion for technology, if I'm not working, I like to unplug, spend time with my two kids, hiking, biking, running, or sitting on the beach watching the sunset.
What is the best piece of professional advice you ever received?
Someone once told me not to be good at everything, just be great at one thing. I would go further to say, be competent in everything and be amazing at one thing. Specializing in a niche area gives you an edge above the rest, but having multiple areas of competency keeps you employed when times are tough.
Your Donations Matter.
